How Sessions Work

First steps

When you get in touch, we can briefly discuss what's bringing you to therapy and answer any questions you might have. This helps us both get a sense of whether we might be a good fit before booking your first session.

The first few sessions

If we decide to work together, the first few sessions focus on getting to know you and understanding what you're hoping for from therapy. This isn't about taking a detailed history — it's about building a foundation of safety and trust, and understanding what matters to you.

Ongoing therapy

Most people attend weekly, at least initially. This helps build momentum and allows the work to deepen. As things progress, we can discuss what frequency feels right for you.

The length of therapy varies depending on what you're working on and your goals. Some people find that a few months brings meaningful change; others benefit from longer-term work. We'll review regularly and you're always in control of when to end.

Online or in person?

Both options are available. Online sessions take place via Zoom and can be just as effective as in-person work for many people. Online therapy offers flexibility if travel is difficult or you prefer the comfort of your own space. We can discuss which might suit you best.

Practical Information

Payment

Payment is due at the time of each session by bank transfer. I'll provide details when we arrange your first appointment.

Cancellations

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give at least 48 hours' notice. Late cancellations or missed sessions are charged at the full session fee, except in genuine emergencies.

Confidentiality

Everything we discuss is confidential. I work within the UKCP ethical framework, which includes clear guidelines about the very rare circumstances where confidentiality might need to be broken (primarily if there's a serious risk to your safety or someone else's). I'll explain this fully at the start of our work together.
